We drove the coast and found St. George. We were headed to a different location but instead chose to take the bridge to St. George. We really enjoyed our time there. just didn’t get the chance to read history due to time. I chose to go up in the Lighthouse. I hope to return. There is a seafood resturant we were told about and the town over has a moonlight lighthouse tour during a full-moon.
We arrived late afternoon, not too many folks but is was January.

Really neat experience. Such a neat story on how the town came together to save and clean all the bricks to restore the lighthouse so it could stand once again. Nice gift shop and staff there is really helpful. Reasonably priced to do the lighthouse tour and worth the time to do it as well.

My first lighthouse climb on this trip. Open on Tuesday. A Fritomann review.
There are 3 lighthouses located on the Big Bend and I made my vacation plans to visit and climb all three. In two days. It's a 45 minute drive from my hotel in Port St Joe, to Saint George Island (otherwise known as Cape Saint George). I arrived in my hotel in Port Saint Joe, Monday afternoon, after a 6 hour drive up from my home in New Port Richey. So on Tuesday I was up and at em and ready for the scenic drive down to the first lighthouse.
Do your research on hours of operation for these attractions. Fritomann's valuable advice from lots of experience.
You go into the visitor's center (and gift shop) and pay your fee, and you get a ticket for your climb. Get your Lighthouse Society Passport stamped at this time if you have one, and if you don't have one, buy one and start your stamp collection right now.
When you enter the lighthouse for your climb, if you have any questions the lady there will tell you anything about the history of this place. Then up you go.
Most interesting to me is the fact that the tower toppled on the beach years ago, and the dedicated effort to collect the bricks and build the lighthouse back up.
Yes, this is a traditional brick built cylindrical tower, not like so many lighthouses in Florida which are built on stilts called 'screw piles '.
Fritomann hopes that you will visit and donate and climb these treasures and get serious about lighthouse preservation, and get your youngsters enthusiastic about them too.

Would definitely recommend visiting. The center had alot of interesting artifacts and history about the lighthouse. The actual lighthouse was pretty neat and had excellent views of the island from up top.

Awesome slice of history! I highly recommend climbing the lighthouse! Placards along the way tell the history of the lighthouse, and the view at the top is well worth the climb!

We always stop in for a souvenir. They have a good variety of things and lots of info on the lighthouse. It's $5 for adults and children are free to age 6, but have to meet a height requirement due to a ladder inside. Ages 7-12 are $3.00. Souvenir prices are reasonable. The entire area around the lighthouse is well maintained and you can grab some great pictures with the lighthouse in the background from the nearby beach. You should stop!

Beautiful location, right on the beach in a cozy little town. This lighthouse and the adjacent keepers quarters are manned, as well as having a beautiful gift shop and historical artifacts inside. People there were abundantly friendly and helpful, and took all the proper covid precautions. The grounds are well maintained, and you can find plenty to eat, drink, shop, and do nearby. Highly recommend this visit!
