Wonderful event at Jonah Allen Gallery tonight for the UGA Chapter Emerald Coast. Jonah’s talents are off the charts. [But what else would you expect from a Damn Good Dawg?]

His images — varied, colorful, uniquely textured and dynamic — are hard to describe in words. You really need to come by and experience first-hand.

Jonah Allen uses the sea and sand as his inspiration for creating incredibly detailed , beautifully composed photographs of the beauty all around us. Jonah’s use of a variety of innovative materials compliments the images he has chosen to capture in so many surprising ways, yet he still manages to illustrate the simplicity of the natural world and its striking beauty. He is also a warm, welcoming host of the beautiful gallery space that features his work. His initiative in connecting the sale of his work to addressing hunger issues through local charitable work is especially admirable, as well as important to me, as the former Director of Grants Programming for a Community Foundation in my home state.

I visited the gallery this past summer after receiving their coffee table book as a gift and loved everything in the gallery. My MIL was there with me as well and fell in love with a piece that I wanted to purchase as a gift for her. I have been a supporter (and friend) of Jonah's since early on. I have multiple pieces that all bring me joy but my absolute favorite is the custom piece I had done for my home I renovated on Eastern Lake. I knew I wanted a larger scale statement piece to bring the home to life. We took a beautiful image of Jonah's and split it into two for a unique, custom diptych which allows the wave to "flow" through the window that was awkwardly in the middle of the wall. This allows the room to feel unified and also truly brings a sense of ease and peace when looking at it. The water is really special to me and allows me to release any tension I may have. I love how this work of art can do the same for me in my home simply by looking at it. I also appreciate how the majority of the work/waves themselves are shot here locally right by my home on Eastern Lake, Seagrove Beach and for the fact he allowed me to be part of the creative process in finding the perfect fit for the home.
