From the moment we arrived via float plane we were met by friendly faces, and fed outstanding food and drink. The guides were all fantastic and very knowledgeable. We are mostly salt water fishermen and were looking forward to the halibut fishing, we were shocked by how much fun the freshwater fly fishing trip was. We had an amazing time and all the guides were so helpful and accommodating. If you have mobility issues please do NOT hesitate to do either the freshwater or saltwater, it should not be missed. Just tell them what accommodations you may need, trust me they have it all and are happy to help in any way. Our freshwater guides bought us to a very beautiful very accessible spot on Thorn river and everyone in our group was able to have a great time and catch a lot of fish. Boardwalk made sure the saltwater boat we went out on had a wide entry door in back so no one had to climb over the high gunwale. Another guest we met while there had issues with her hands, she was thrilled that boardwalk had an electric reel on board and that she was able to fish along with everyone else. You really should take the float plane in and out, I thought it would be terrifying but it actually a really smooth, what a beautiful ride. All the staff were amazing the food was both plated sit down and buffet both perfectly cooked and hot . The fresh crab you catch yourself OMG what a fun surprise that was !! I cant say anything negative about this place. They accommodated us at every moment.

The facility itself is nice, with beautiful views, but it’s now under new ownership with a completely new staff. Keep in mind that many of the reviews reflect the previous management, not the current situation.||The food was disappointing—definitely not gourmet, and the buffet we had twice didn’t use locally sourced ingredients. The "chef" was rude to his staff, which we could clearly hear due to the open kitchen. His behavior was unacceptable and mean-spirited. The rest of the staff worked hard and did their best, though it was obvious they were unhappy, and I can’t blame them.||The fishing experience was enjoyable. While the guides were new to the area and not very knowledgeable about the local history, they were skilled in fishing, and we had great conversations. The guides also shared that the new ownership isn't managing the place well and hinted at more staff changes if certain policies aren’t addressed by next season.||One major issue was the aggressive tipping expectations. There are signs and sheets recommending tips of $75-$125 per person, per area, per day. It felt excessive and pushy. In my opinion, the guides were the only ones who truly earned their tips since they worked hard for 8 hours a day. For the high cost we paid to stay and travel there, it felt inappropriate to pressure guests into tipping this much. The owners should pay their staff better.||Overall, I enjoyed the area and had some great new experiences, but I wouldn’t return to this lodge, though I’d definitely visit the region again.

Wow! What an incredible place! We took the entire family - we were nervous to say the least but wanted to experience Alaska. SO GLAD WE DID IT! What an unforgettable experience. The guides are the best in the business! Rob made fishing a dream and core memories were made. He helped all our little kids catch fish! The rooms are cozy, rustic and nice, making it easy to relax after a day of fishing and fun. The staff goes above and beyond, and the meals were simply delicious. Whether you’re into fishing, kayaking, hiking, or just soaking in the Alaska scenery, Boardwalk Lodge offers an unforgettable Alaskan escape. We will be back next year!

I was a guide at Boardwalk and it was a horrible experience. The new owners are deceitful and manipulative. They promised housing for my dog and I then changed policy. The chef of over 12 years that I shared a home with at the lodge was told that we had to remove our dogs from the property. I was let go after a heated conversation and told if I did not leave within a few hours they would have me arrested. All of the original staff including the chef , guides and hospitality have quit. The new owners have turned a once award winning Lodge into a toxic workplace and from what I'm hearing from friends on the island a place to avoid.

All the reviews looked good, 5-star rating; website hit all the marks. Unfortunately, what you get is not what they advertised. No food cooked to order. All overcooked in chaffing dishes. Could go on and on. Bottom line. Don't waste your money!

Recently returned from a highly anticipated bucket-list trip for my family. Boardwalk has positioned itself as perhaps one of the most expensive lodges in SE Alaska, so we had high expectations. The highlights included: remote location, exceptional staff (especially the chefs/servers who knew us by name), fabulous food (varied courses, made from scratch, no buffets), clean rustic room accommodations, and hard-working fishing guides who departed promptly at 7am. It was a nice bonus to set out crab pots and bring back crabs each day for dinner. Inexpensive alcohol (Bud Light etc) was included on the boat and at meals. Housekeeping service was outstanding (laundry left in a bag was washed and folded upon return).||Several areas did not meet expectations for a supposedly “high-end” lodge experience. For example, the lodge is not flexible when it comes to selecting salt vs freshwater fishing each day. We were told that there are not enough boats and captains to accommodate every guest for saltwater fishing, thus forcing you into freshwater fishing when you may not want to even do it that day. The rooms need some maintenance (e.g. window screens had multiple rips and holes, the room ran hot but we couldn’t open the casement windows since they were all missing handles, the odd-shaped windows did not have blackout curtains to block the 4 am sunrise). The dining area inside the main lodge is small and cannot accommodate all the guests when it is full, so be prepared to eat the amazing food outside. The boats were old and not well kept (e.g. ripped seat cushions, old equipment). The snacks/drinks for fishing days ranged from great fresh-baked cookies to cheap items from Costco.||Also, the fishing was surprisingly subpar for the area's reputation. Visitors to SE Alaska expect to catch fish all day, not sit in a boat and stare at a fishing rod that gets a bite every once and awhile. I can’t fault our amazing guides – they worked hard to find fish, went to all the usual spots, and were equally frustrated. But no one caught “tons of fish” (as per previous reviews), including other boats and recent guests. Perhaps this part of the Inside Passage is no longer good for fishing. In contrast, guests from competing Ketchikan lodges had absolutely no problem fishing and arrived at the airport with boxes and boxes of fish. Also, river levels were too low for optimal freshwater fishing so we choose not to participate.||Finally, the fish processing was poor. What little fish we did catch were no longer frozen upon arrival home. Unlabeled plain wax cartons were used. The lodge was very responsive to this problem, asked for feedback, and provided a suitable replacement.||Overall it was a very memorable trip, but my family did not feel like we got what we paid for given the higher costs compared to other lodges. The lodge is under new ownership so the glowing reviews about the previous owner Brad no longer apply. Next trip I plan on selecting a lodge in a different part of SE Alaska.

We were blown away by our experience at Boardwalk Lodge! The natural beauty was incredible, but undoubtedly the best part was the people. We were warmly greeted by the staff, and they worked hard to ensure our group of 10 had an amazing experience. The fishing guides were professional, fun, and helped us improve our skills. We caught tons of fish. We enjoyed hikes, saw starfish during low tide, spotted a bald eagle, and flew in a float plane over Misty Fjords National Monument. The meals at the lodge were a highlight and we loved gathering for breakfast and dinner. Everyone knew us by name and went above and beyond to create delicious and memorable meals. After four days, we left grateful for the chance to be immersed in nature, have outdoor adventures, and experience the warm hospitality of the Boardwalk staff. We highly recommend Boardwalk Lodge. You won’t be disappointed. Trip of a lifetime!

Loved our trip to Boardwalk Lodge! Staff was friendly and accommodations were very cozy. Ian, our freshwater guide was so knowledgeable and patient. After a short lesson on fly fishing I was able to catch my first pink salmon on a fly rod soon after. The most fun for me, however, was the saltwater fishing. Our Captain, CJ,, and First Mate, Cody, found us an amazing variety of fish, many of which ended up in the fish box. It was “nothin” but a good time ! “ This was our first fishing trip to Alaska and was a trip not soon to be forgotten.
