This place is a hellscape to work with, mostly due to the lack of communication. I was summoned for jury duty for Monday, April 1st 2024, but due to being an in-home caregiver I had to submit an excusal form. Three weeks go by and I never received a reply letter, phone call or voicemail, so the Wednesday before the date I called THEM to check on the form's status and was told I'd been granted it. But then I received a message two days later saying I was still needed.

Ended up having to drive there anyway (just to be safe) and wait with the other 200+ people they summoned while they selected the jury, only to be called up to the front desk and informed that I'd been excused due to being a student (not even for the reason I gave them).

Excellent pleasant experience. I got a summons to appear for jury duty. Unless you work there you cannot have a cellphone on you. The reason is someone took some authorized pictures of some juveniles and the only way to prevent this from happening in the future is to ban the phones. Leave it in your vehicle along with your smartwatch and lots of other items that could be used as a weapon such as a tactical pen. There's a sign listing all the prohibited items near the door. A deputy came out on the steps and made the announcement about the cellphones and the smartwatches. You're not counting your steps in there. My fellow jurors were all nice people from all walks of life. It was a rewarding experience.

I called this courthouse other day to figure out what proper paperwork I need to file for and all they can tell me is that they don't have the training to tell me what paperwork I actually need or what I can use which I think was pretty pathetic and I never heard that from any courthouse before if these places are not properly trained or have no training at all that why are they always hiring this place needs improvements and didn't get a lot of communication on the phone they just kept repeating theirselves about what I need to do so I guess I have to go all the way up there just to prove a point

Very off putting that there are no electronic devices allowed in the building. Must leave phone in your car. Lack of information online about necessary documents for application.

I cannot express how great everyone was. Extremely friendly and helpful. Everyone we came across truly cared about the people there today. Judge Militello and the officer who worked his door and did the paperwork (wish I would have gotten his name) were so patient and explained everything so clearly. They truly guided everyone with the person's best interest at heart. Thank you to everyone from the bottom of my heart and I hope my son and his friend learned their lesson

filthy trouble

Worst place serving its citizens. They tell me I'm not allowed in wearing tank top. Ask why, told respect for law. I rebutled, how about respect for citizens that pay the bills, pay your salaries, via taxes?!!! I say I've seen women enter with same attire, blouses with tank top shape. No difference. They don't allow phones in, so if you don't have a vehicle and rely on others to get you there, no way to contact your ride when done. Total incompetence and disrespect for citizens they're sworn to protect and serve. Sumter County is the worst, idiotic, draconian, no respect for its citizens, yet mandate respect for them, county in Florida. And they wonder why people in the community hate law enforcement and have no respect or appreciation for them. It's called, if you want respect, then give respect. It's never a one way street in a free society!!!

they don't allow phones inside and I think that is a very flawed and unsafe rule to have, and the only reason i gave 4 stars.
anyway, went to get a marriage license for my soon to be wife and I. it was affordable and the workers were friendly.

I gave 1 star so I could write this sumter co like marion & other small counties in florida get away with bending the rules or just flat out breaking them to say the system is flawed is a huge understatement these judges are abusing their power
